Inspiration on Thursday

hi all!

Welcome back to the blog!  It's inspiration day here and we have some beautiful layouts to share!

This layout, by Elaine, is a really good example of choosing paper colours and themes to coordinate with your photo.

Elaine shows us a great way to incorporate a unique embellishment on our page, this title is a screen printed piece of wood veneer.

This layout is based on a sketch from MME, and as she always does, Elaine makes it truly her own.
If you have a layout or card that you would like to see posted here to inspire others, email your creations to me here.  Come on give it a try, I'd love to share your work on this blog!

Thank you for visiting and happy scrapping!

Tutorial Wednesday - Gift Tag

hi there!

This little tip is for those of us that need a little gift tag when giving a gift... maybe with or without a card.  Sometimes we have a need for one or the other, and sometimes both.

The other day my Mom came for lunch,  I had picked her up an Orchid and needed a little tag to go along with.

Then I thought, hmmmm, I should really show everyone how easy it is to make these!  So here goes.....

First gather your supplies, I have kept this very 'tool basic' for those of us that may not have a lot of tools.  A trimmer, any border punch, a hole punch and a corner rounder are all that you will need.
Starting with a 2.5" piece of cardstock (you will notice I am using a scrap) punch along one end using your border punch.
Now trim it down to 4 inches tall.
Add a punched hole in the center of the non border punched edge and round the corners at the top only.   Now you have your basic tag piece done.
I keep a stash of scraps ( I will tell you how I decided which ones to keep and how I organize them one day, remind me... my memory is suffering lately!) on hand, this way when the need arises I go straight to this bin to pull out what suits me at the time.
Now decorate the the tag with whatever pattern paper you chose.
I also have a little bin that I keep 'off cuts' of my die cuts in.  For example, if I am using the Cricut to cut out a shape, but maybe it is too small or too large... I throw it in here.
Then when I have a quick project to make like this tag, or if I am looking for that extra little embellishment to  add to a project, I grab this bin and start sifting.

The finished project!  These sentiment rub-ons from ScrapMuch? even make the job that much easier!

This has got me thinking that maybe I should pull out my christmas paper scraps and start making a bunch of Christmas tags in advance, you know... get it done way ahead of the busy time!

Thanks for checking in!

Sketch-y Friday

Hi all!

Welcome back to another Sketch-y Friday!

Here is this week's sketch.......

And here is Eileen's take on the sketch ......

Her colour scheme is perfect, the white base makes everything pop, the fun phrased tag substitutes perfectly for the journaling tag ( so for those of you ta=hat do not like to journal - you have options!), multi-sized fonts create a big impact and embellie clustering is where it is at!

Remember we are offering a little prize to one lucky scrapper that participates in at least 2 of this month's sketches.  Just link up your creations at the bottom of each sketch-y Friday post, all qualifying scrappers will be entered into a random draw for a prize.  Only one entry per sketch please.  You have until Thursday May 31st to participate in any of May's sketch challenges, each linkup tool will remain open until that date!  But remember, you must play along with 2 different sketches for a chance to win!  (International participants may be required to pay some shipping fees. ) Who knows, maybe we will run this challenge month after month if you love it and keep playing along!

Thank you for visiting!

Technique Wednesday - From Flowers to Butterflies

Hello!

I have been meaning to share this little tip for quite some time now.  What do you do when you have a flower and you want a butterfly?  You make one of course!

These basic 5 petal flowers .....

Are really easy to turn into butterflies, by snipping off one petal.

Add to a project and add a button to hold a little set of antennae.

Cute, right?
 Papers are Jillibean soup.

Thank you so much for popping in!  Oh, by the way, is there a particular tip or technique you would like to see a tutorial on?  Leave me a comment and let me know and I will get to work on researching the how to's!

Technique Wednesday - Paper Ric Rac

Hi there!

It's Wednesday, I love Wednesday's, half way to the weekend!  and I get to share a tip with you!

For today's tip I wanted to share a technique on making paper ric rac.  I love ric rac, it's sort of retro ( I remember lots of my childhood clothes being trimmed in it) and it sits nice and flat and is an easy ribbon to add to a project.  Though I do not love it for making bows, but that's just me.

The other day,  I was wondering if I could make ric rac out of paper... you know for the times when you don't have just the colour that your are hoping to use.

I decided to give it a try and pulled out a scalloped punch and a 1 inch strip of paper.
As you normally would, I punched along one side of the paper.

Then I flipped the paper around and started punching the other edge.  I started by lining up the end of my paper halfway through the scalloped image on the punch.  This makes the two sides of the punch offset.

And this is what I ended up with, I think it is pretty cute.  And pretty much what I was looking for.
Here is a comparison shot with the real thing.  Not bad eh?

I decided to try it with another punch, this is the Fiskars Threading Water punch, one of the most common.  See how this one almost looks like a mixture of eyelet ribbon and ric rac.   Super fun!  I will for sure be using this one a lot!
Another comparison shot for you.

And this is the card that I used my paper ric rac on.

These papers are MME and the bicycle rub on is Bo Bunny.

Thank you for visiting today!
