3D Start Tutorial

Hi there!

I thought these little 3D stars would be fun to make and would also be a great accent to a masculine project.

Here's the how to...

First you want to die cut the star in the size of your choice.  This one is 2" and was cut with my Cricut.
Now flip it over and use your ScorePal or any scoring device yo have, to score from each point, down to the intersection between each point.

Keep working your way around the star until it ends up looking like this.
 This is the top view.
To keep it 3 dimensional add some foam adhesive to the inside, I put mine 2 thick.
Now make a few more, I made one 2" star and two 1.5 " stars.
And here is a card I created using these fun stars, and some of Studio Calico's Yearbook collection.

And here are a few close up shots.

Sketch-y Friday

Hi there and happy Friday!

As always we have a new sketch to share with you .

And here is Eileen's creative take on it....

Eileen is creating a 8 " x  12' mini book and has modified the sketch accordingly.  I love seeing how the sketches are interpreted each week.

Now it's your turn!  Play along and share it with us!

Here is a run down of the rules.  We are offering a little prize to one lucky scrapper that participates in at least 2 of this month's 4 sketches.  Just link up your creations at the bottom of each Sketch-y Friday post, all qualifying scrappers will be entered into a random draw for a prize.  Only one entry per sketch please.  You have until Tuesday, October 30th at midnight to participate in any of October's sketch challenges, each linkup tool will remain open until that date!  But remember, you must play along with 2 different sketches for a chance to win!  (International participants may be required to pay some shipping fees. ) Who knows, maybe we will run this challenge month after month if you love it and keep playing along!

Inspiration on Thursday

Hi there!

We have more inspiration for you today, from our ScrapPink event!   The ladies at this event were super creative!

First up is Sandy's layout with great colours for her outdoors photos and the layout really focuses on the sweet pictures.

Now for Sheri's pretty 2 page layout,  the grey background paper really draws the eye to this trio of sweet pictures and balances out the pinks really nicely.

Thanks ladies fro sharing your inspiring work with us, we love it when you do!

What are you creating this week? Leave us a comment with your blog address (or other link) ... we will be sure to stop by and leave you some love.  Also, don't forget you can email anything you wish to share, to me here, to have them shown off on our Thursday blog posts.

Boo Bucket with Epiphany - Tutorial Wednesday

Hi there!

We are one week away from Halloween and I have one more quick and fun Halloween tutorial for you today.  Another one to get the kids involved in.

Gather your supplies ... you will need a container of some sort (recycle something if you want, you can always 'undo' this and reclaim your container after Halloween) and white crepe paper.
You will also need a scrap of black and white card stock, a small circle punch (about 1/2") and a large circle Epiphany.  I only have the scalloped circle Epiphany but it worked just fine.
The first step is creating our large googly eyes.  Punch two 1/2" black cardstock circles.  Then adhere these onto the white cardstock, like this.
Now line this up in your Epiphany, slightly off centre, add your epoxy top and punch.  Repeat for second eye.
You should end up with this.  Or plain circles if that is the Epiphany you own.
Now start wrapping your bucket with crepe paper.  Do this nice and messily, so it looks like a spooky mummy!  Just use a few glue dots here and there to hold things in place , especially if you want to reclaim the bucket after Halloween.
Now add your googly eyes, tucking them under  your mummy wrap.
 Cute, right?  Easy, too!
Fill him up with candy and you are all set for Halloween.
You can make this as large as you like, you can also let the kids make one each, the more the merrier!

Halloween Luminaire - Tutorial Wednesday

Hi there!

Happy Wednesday!  I have a new tutorial for you today!

This one is really simple, get the kids involved, make a few to light your path on Halloween!

First start out with a piece of double sided patterned paper measuring 8" x 12".

Then score according to this diagram, the red lines indicate your score lines.

The next step is to trim along the horizontal score line to the vertical score line, like this.....
Now choose any shape die you want and line everything up in your Cuttledbug,  so that your die is centred into one of the 3" sections.  Your 'flaps' will need to be folded up so make sure you aren't die cutting them too.  About one inch from the the edge should be fine.
Sandwich it up and run it through the machine, repeat for the other 3" section.
Now fold lengthwise into a box, you will have two 2" sections to overlap and apply adhesive to along one side.  Then fold up the bottom flaps and add a bit of adhesive there too.

Keeping the embellishing to a minimum, makes it easier for kids, but you can go all out if you wish.
Please pop into your local dollar store and buy battery operated candles, we wouldn't want any little trick or treaters to get hurt if they knock one over or the wind picks up.

Wish I could have taken a good picture in the dark, but you get the gist!

Die Cutting with Ease - Tutorial Wednesday

Hello there!

Have you ever had that scrappy moment, when you are try to die cut an element and it needs to be lined up just perfectly?  You know the one where precision matters and you have one chance to get it right.  Are your Cuttlebug mats slightly curved with use like mine are?  You know what I mean!

Well here is a quick tip to get it right the first time....

See what I mean?   My little digital stamp is all coloured up and now I need to cut him out, but he fits inside the frame just perfectly so I have no room for error.  And I do not want to colour another one!
Well here is the solution, a little Washi tape.  It holds everything together so nicely, and unlike regular tape doesn't leave any stickiness behind,  So if I accidentally overlap the tape onto my die cut portion, it won't harm it.

How easy is that!  One more quick fix for your arsenal of scrappy info.!
