Tim Holtz Distress Paint | Tutorial

Hi there!

Laura here today sharing a few tags  that I created a while back when I was playing with some Tim Holtz Distress Paint that I picked up at ScrapMuch?, in the Pumice Stone colour, which is a super pretty warm grey.

This paint has some unique qualities; it is really fluid acrylic paint, is reactive to water, dries with a matte finish, you can achieve an opaque or semi opaque finish depending on the amount of water you add to it, it works on many surfaces (ie. wood, metal, glass, plastic and more), it is available in many colours, has a small metal mixing ball in it, and it is water based so it cleans up easily wit water.

I thought I would share just a few of the looks that I achieved with you today.  Note, this is not a step by step tutorial, but the steps are really basic so I know you KNOW them!

I decided o play with a mask and a large background stamp, but of course the possibilities are endless.

For this tag,  I simply added colour to the background using Distress Inks and a Tim Holtz blending tool.  I must confess that I prefer the small round tools to the larger rectangular tools.  After that I laid my mask over the tag, and daubed on the Distress Paint gently swirling it as I went over the tag.  Super simple and pretty, this paint dries so quickly so you can further embellish your tag for a card or layout almost right away.

My next tag started out with the same first step, but when it came to adding the paint, I daubed it onto my stamp and then stamped my tag.  Again, really easy and a great look.  Wouldn't this be pretty in a few strategic areas on the background of a layout?

And for my last share today, I left my background untreated, choosing simply to ink the edges of the tag.  I then added a bit of paint to a craft mat, gave it a light spritz of water and then used my mask and a makeshift stamp by laying it into the paint / water mixture and then pressing it onto my tag.  The more water you add the more fluid and opaque your look is.  As a finishing touch I added a stamped flower to the corner using Distress Ink.  Again, I think I should try this on a layout!

What do you think?  Are you convinced to give these paints a try?

Thank you for visiting today!
