Needle Storage Tip with Laura

I often use a needle when scrapbooking, maybe to add a few stitches here and there or to sew on a little embellishment like a button, clip or wood veneer piece.  And I frequently lose my needle in my pile of scrappy stuff that I am working with.  The other evening I decided enough was enough and came up with this quick and easy Needle Storage Tutorial to share with you, and to keep me from losing one more needle!

I used this pretty little milk glass bowl that I had in my collection, but any little bowl or dish will be just perfect for this.

I have some of these magnetic sheets (from the dollar store) in my stash.  I use them for a lot of things, but never what they are intended for, lol.

I grabbed a circle die that matched the size of my dish.

And ran the magnetic sheet and die through my Cuttlebug.  You could always trace the bottom of your dish onto the back of the magnetic sheet and trim it by hand, if you do not have a manual die cutting machine.

The nice feature of these magnetic sheets is that they are self adhesive.

Now just adhere the magnetic piece to the inside bottom of your dish.

And gather up all those pins and needs that you have scattered around.

And dump them into your pretty and functional little bowl.

Look, you can even hold the dish on its side and the needles stay put!  This is particularly great in case you ever knock your dish over!

And it looks so pretty on my desk!

This makes me happy - it really is the little things!

Alpha Sticker Tip

Hi there!

The last few tutorials that I have shared have been pretty labour intensive on my part - honestly sometimes just coming up with an idea is work! lol So this week I am giving my self a bit of a break and sharing a quick tip.  I was recently wanting to use some alpha stickers on a project but I didn't have much left in the font of my choice.  As such I was struggling to come up with words using the remaining letters.

After a quick Google search I found this site,  Litscape.com, just input the letters you have a list pops up with all the words that you can make - guaranteed one is suitable!

Such a great way to use up those leftover Thickers!

Sorry for the lack of pretty pictures but thanks for visiting!

Dry Embossing Large Page Elements | Tutorial

It is Wednesday and that means I get to share another tip with you! The other day I wanted to add some dry embossing to a larger element on a layout that I was working on.  I wanted to add a frame to my page that I had die cut using my Silhouette.  The piece was twice as wide as my embossing folder so I knew I would have to emboss it one side at a time, but it would not fit through my Cuttlebug, so I had a bit of a predicament.

I pondered how to "press" my element in my embossing folder for a minute and came up with this.

As mentioned, I could only emboss half of my piece at a time, so I lined up one side in the folder

and then I pressed it with a rolling pin. I did not have to press very hard at all to get a good impression.

Here is a little peek at the first half.

Then I adjusted my die cut and repeated for the second half.

Now with both sides done, it looks great, and took no time at all!

Here is a look at it on my page.

And this is a full shot of my layout.

I can see me using this tip for small embossed pieces too, why haul out the Cuttlebug for little jobs??!! Or maybe you do not have a Cuttlebug but like the look of dry embossing, hmm got you thinking didn't I?

So glad you stopped by today!
